Dermatology - Clinical Lead

We are looking for a Dermatology Clinical Lead to our Virgin Care service in Milton Keynes on substantive contract. The service is run with in Milton Keynes – University Hospital providing a secondary care dermatology service. Milton Keynes hospital is a general district hospital serving north Buckinghamshire, south Northamptonshire, and north-west Bedfordshire and within 30 mins by train to central London.

Virgin Care operate several dermatology services throughout the UK, getting together on a regularly basis, auditing and sharing standard methodology for innovation and service re-design. Within the role you will have the option to join your clinical specialism and network with likeminded professionals from across the country sharing ideas to help achieve greater and better dermatological health care. You’ll be a part of the pool of subject matter experts bringing together clinical and operational leads and you will be a part of quality improvements, research, and development activity.

Main Responsibility

As the clinical lead for dermatology, you will undertake new and follow up consultations of patients referred to the Dermatology service by GPs. This will include diagnosis of the full range of dermatology conditions and initiating medical and surgical treatments. The service provides and not limited to, 2-week cancer referrals, phototherapy, paediatrics, Systemics, Biologics and patch testing.

Within this role, you will: 

  • Undertake new and follow up consultations for adults and children including a full assessment of the medical condition, the patient’s concerns, and expectations. The post holder will enter full details of history, examination findings, diagnosis, and treatment plan in the case record
  • Provide strong clinical leadership and support
  • Clinical supervision
  • Stakeholder management
  • Dermatological diagnostic and surgical procedures as well as autonomous prescribing for patients.
  • Manage and monitor patients on the 2 weeks wait pathway
  • MDT
  • Follow care pathways for the common skin problems as recommend by national guidance
  • Prescribe treatment only for the presenting complaint and in accordance with the dermatology formulary and prescribing restrictions
  • Ensure that patient or carers are informed fully about the condition, answer any questions, supply written information if available and involve them in decisions about the treatment
  • Dictate a letter to the patient’s GP at the time of the consultation for every patient and arrange to review the letters and amend as necessary to an appropriate timescale.
  • Undertake dermatological surgical procedures only with evidence of appropriate training.
  • Participate in Audit and evaluation
  • Undergo annual appraisal and participate in clinical governance meetings
  • Report incidents and complaints and cooperate with investigations
  • Undertake all required Postgraduate training and development to maintain skills

The Ideal Candidate

As a consultant dermatologist you must possess MRCP qualification or equivalent, be fully registered with the GMC as well as hold a licence to practice and be on the “Specialist Register” for dermatology. You will need to be able demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of all aspects of Dermatological conditions

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel.
